Chambers fails to clarify that Africa is made up of many countries and many different cultural groups that live within and sometimes transcend national boundaries. The color photos are attractive and some of the chapters, including "Family and Community," "Decorative Arts," and "Religious Beliefs and Practices," provide information about cultural diversity, but the text includes far too many generalizations. Reading list, timeline, webstites. Glos., ind.
