The Horn Book
January 1, 2004
Each of these phonetic readers opens with a list of six words containing the specific letter combination. Next, six short sentences use the selected words. Finally, a short story uses the new words in a story. Readers may be helped by the extremely brief lessons, but the photographs and text are so boring that kids will want to move quickly to more inspired fare. There are eight other spring 2003 books in this series. Glos. [Review covers these Sandcastle: Word Families titles: "-ake as in Cake, -one as in Stone, -ay as in Clay, " and "-ook as in Hook". ](Copyright 2004 by The Horn Book, Incorporated, Boston.
