When our pets are sick, we rely on veterinarians to make them well. Considering how many of us consider our pets as an important member of the family, it's a very important job. In this book, readers learn about the many responsibilities of veterinarians, from caring for our pets to taking care of farm animals and wild animals at the zoo.

Grades K-2 The books in the People in My Community series consistently supply a basic, friendly introduction to a popular social studies topic for early-elementary children. Bright photos with occasional labels show people at work and the tools they use in their jobs. The books are addressed directly to readers and are effective in relating various service professions to childrens lives. Veterinarians includes some photos of children as pet owners, but it also explores the wider world of animal care in both zoo and farm settings. Especially attractive for beginning readers, the one short paragraph of text on each spread is printed in a large, easy-to-read font. Back matter includes a brief glossary, an index, and an about the author section, as well as age-appropriate related books and websites.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
