Grades 7-12 For students who need reliable and concise research sources on controversial topics, these volumes in the Special Reports series offer great options. Accompanied by color photos, graphs, and charts, each book starts its discussion with a recent news story that draws attention to the issue and continues with an overview of the controversy at hand. Subsequent chapters give a historical background and address multiple points of view. Hate Crimes in America examines theories about why hate crimes occur, how hate crimes have emerged, and how laws have evolved in response to these crimes. The titles conclude by considering the future of each topic. Sidebars, numerous media stories, and extensive back matter extend the value of the series.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2017, American Library Association.) -
