Grades 8-12 In volume 3, Momose-sensei connects the dots between Anzu and her childhood friend Junta, who really is a childhood friend, not a figment of Riri's magic as Anzu initially suspected. With this revelation comes Junta's origin story and further character development. The trip down memory lane brings insight and further development to Anzu as well as several of the other supporting characters. The humor from the first two volumes is also slightly muted here, as the middle-school Anzu, Junta, and Takamine tackle much heavier topics, but there is still levity overall. We also get a classic shōjo summer festival scene, complete with traditional yukata, which is a wonderful opportunity to bring the whole cast together in a meaningful way and showcase the beautiful, colorful illustrations. Readers who are rooting for Hijiri will be disappointed by the back seat role he's been dealt in this volume, but hopefully will be satisfied by newly developed characters.
