Grades 7-10 Books in the Essential Careers series offer overviews of employment opportunities in their respective fields. Looking at many possible jobs within each category, every book introduces various career paths, the education and training required, and the rewards offered. Even in volumes where the jobs may seem specific, such as cosmetologist or dental hygienist, there are actually a variety of options open to interested students. Most double-page spreads include one or more color photos, drawn from a variety of sources. Sidebars supplement the text. Aviation covers a broad spectrum of opportunities, including mechanics, pilots, flight attendants, ground service workers, air traffic controllers, airport managers, and aerospace engineers. Pay scales are mentioned here, though not in all series volumes. This is good introductory information, competently presented.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
